Legal Process to Practice Over State Lines for Telebehavior and Telemental Health

Gain a better understanding of the regulations and standards of practicing over state lines.

In the last decade, particularly in the midst of and post-COVID-19, the need to expand telehealth in the behavioral and mental health treatment sphere is critical. Over 52 million people in the U.S. have mental health needs and 40 percent of those with mental health needs have no or few treatment options. Despite the Mental Health Parity Act mandates, more than 40 percent of those with mental health needs do not receive treatment, largely due to limited provider access and socio-economic conditions. Interstate utilization of telebehavioral and telemental health services significantly increases access to mental health providers, while addressing health disparities/inequalities. It is essential that federal and state lawmakers pass requisite laws, to allow unrestricted delivery of healthcare to all suffering from behavioral and mental health problems, particularly disadvantaged social groups. This program will provide an in-depth discussion of the growing role of telebehavioral and telemental health care during COVID-19 and the future of telehealth in the delivery of mental health treatment in the post-PHE world while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
