Learn the fundamentals of medical terminology to ensure proper knowledge and use of medications in your field.
A study published by Mayo Clinic in 2013 revealed 70% of Americans take at least one prescription medication and 20% of Americans are on five or more medications. Each year, more than 2 million people in the United States (US) are hospitalized or seriously injured. More than 100,000 die each year from adverse drug reactions (ADRs), making ADRs one of the leading causes of death in the US. This topic will present pharmacology terms, sources of medications, medication development, emerging medications, types of medications, legislation, sources of medication information, and the roles of the prescriber, pharmacist, pharmacy technician, and nurse. We will also describe components of a medication order, best practices, and the rights of medication administration.
