Ensure all of your facilities in the public right-of-way are compliant.
Effective right-of-way utilization has become increasingly complicated over the years due to limited availability, urbanization, shrinking budgets, environmental constraints, and balancing the demands of competing users. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) greatly increases this complexity by mandating additional requirements concerning pedestrian facilities. This course will provide a comprehensive soup to nuts hands-on guidance with programming, planning, permitting, engineering, construction, and maintenance of current and future pedestrian amenities within the public right-of-way. The goal is to equip you with real-world directions beyond minimal legal compliance to practically meet the needs of all users in understanding and addressing the specific and diverse needs of various disabilities relating to mobility, visual, and auditory. Unique legal aspects will also be identified and explained. The information serves as a roadmap on how to tangibly fulfill the laws. Become informed on technicalities and administrative tools and be empowered to seamlessly implement excellent ADA accommodations within the built environment of the public right-of-way.
Learning Objectives
- You will be able to define the applicable ADA laws and their requirements.
- You will be able to describe key accessibility challenges that the ADA seeks to accommodate.
- You will be able to identify non-ADA compliant facilities within the public R/W and practical solutions.
