Learn the Language of Play.
Gain a better understanding of how to incorporate the use of play in therapeutic settings. The natural language of young children seven and below is play. Trauma also shuts down the language area of the brain so even older children will rely on play, and creative arts to tell what happened to them. This is especially true of sand tray therapy which is one of the approaches to play therapy that is popular with adolescents and adults. All therapists who work with children should learn the language of play. It is not the intent of this educational information to qualify mental health professionals to do play therapy. It provides rather an introduction to play therapy, but the training of a registered play therapist is rigorous.
