The Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) was implemented in 1983 replacing a cost-based reimbursement methodology in an effort to better control the costs of providing care to the Medicare inpatient and to incentivize hospitals to better manage utilization.
As time has passed CMS has modified the program to better recognize severity of illness AND to reduce payments to hospitals for certain quality of care issues such as reducing payment for hospital acquired conditions. This OnDemand Webinar is designed to help you understand the modifications to the IPPS for fiscal year 2012 as outlined in the Final Rule as well as the financial and operational implications of those changes.
