Learn how to overcome common design challenges that may impact and impede the construction process.
Learn about difficult development and construction issues that may arise at your project site due to adverse soil conditions, ground and surface water, and weather. You will also learn about an emerging area of engineering concern, which is threats to buildings and facilities presented by terrorist and extraordinary natural activity.
Learning Objectives
- You will be able to recognize groundwater and surface water conditions at excavation and construction sites that may impact design and impede the construction process.
- You will be able to discuss weather-related issues at the project site, particularly in cold, arctic and sub-arctic regions.
- You will be able to explain corrosive soil conditions and how to protect your structures and utilities from harmful corrosion.
- You will be able to identify problematic soil conditions at a project site and address such issues as those driven by slope, compaction, subsidence and erosion.
