Understand the proper protocol when fatigue arises within the healthcare field to ensure the environment is safe and handled with the best care possible for the patient(s).
There is a growing healthcare crisis in the ranks of healthcare providers. High demand care areas, higher patient acuities, less resources and more work demands deplete care providers of their personal reserves. Unidentified, this problem can manifest as joylessness, hostility, and aggression among other emotions. This topic provides tools to use to identify compassion fatigue in yourself and in colleagues and provides the listener steps they can take to address this serious concern and to mitigate its destructive effects. Failure to fully appreciate the demands of a healthcare career can lead to lack of recognition of this normal response to compassion fatigue. Unaddressed, compassion fatigue can lead to unsafe, less productive care environments.
