Gain a better understanding of the major elements of bipolar disorder as well as various elements to consider as part of effective treatment.
Although pediatric bipolar disorder accounts for about 2% of psychiatric disorders, it can account for up to 50% of resources expended to address the challenges associated with this diagnosis. Further, nearly one-half of adolescents are initially incorrectly diagnosed, delaying effective treatment. Left untreated, individuals are at least 15 times more likely to commit suicide compared to the general population. Fortunately, effective research-based treatment approaches do exist. This topic will review the necessary components to familiarize professionals with the essential elements of bipolar, methods for intervening, and important considerations. Using a blend of research-backed information and case examples, you will learn how to recognize important signs and effectively develop interventions.
