The Joint Commission looks at sentinel events and performance statistics and then creates the National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG). Communication is listed each year as a goal to improve the effectiveness of communication to increase patient safety. The utilization of AIDET provides a framework to improve communication which in turn facilitates nurse-patient relationships and improves patient satisfaction and outcomes.
