Bloodborne Pathogens

Learn best practices to prevent illness or injuries from bloodborne pathogens and avoid costly citations.

For over two decades, OSHA has enforced its Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) in the healthcare sector and various other industries where workers provide first aid or emergency care and may have exposure. The requirements are arduous and entail documented training, unique PPE and housekeeping requirements, vaccines, and a written exposure control plan. OSHA also can cite both the host employer and any onsite contractors where employees are exposed to unmitigated BBP hazards, with penalties of up to $156,000 (OSHA) per exposed employee under the agency's IBI enforcement policy. This session will provide the most current guidance from OSHA, basic regulatory and training requirements, and best practices to prevent illness or injuries from bloodborne pathogens and avoid costly citations.
