Nearly every business process can be described as workflow. From delivering a business letter through a central mailroom to hiring a new employee, there are business processes and business rules that must be followed. Some of these processes are manual. If you use paper in your process, many of your tasks are manual.
Through Workflow Automation companies can reduce their expenses by automating many manual functions in their business processes. One example is the automation of a college application review process. Consider the paperwork involved in having a board of 7 application review members all needing to see and comment on every application that comes through. Each application has a checklist of items that must be tracked, approvals and verifications from a dozen potential sources and a copy of each student’s package for each board member in the review process.
It doesn’t take much imagination to see the costs and the challenges posed by this process. Yet through workflow automation, the bulk of the manual work is eliminated through workflow software and document imaging.
