Hierarchy of Safety Controls

Learn the techniques incorporated to reduce hazards.

Hazards, or physical conditions that induce injury, can take several forms in the workplace. Usually, the hazard can be controlled in several different ways. All the same, the aim is to attempt the best treatment technique that correctly removes the hazard or decreases it to its lowest possible level. In the OSHA Standards and in safety education, hazard controls are usually in one of two categories – administrative or engineering controls. This white paper reviews how the hierarchy of safety controls includes those techniques to reduce the hazards to the lowest possible level.
