Happy People - The Main Ingredient for Organizational Success

"I recently read an article by Stuart R. Levine, called “What can we learn from the history of change management?” about the organizational change management movement of the 90s. “Prior to the emergence of the formal discipline of change management, most change efforts ignored the people and the culture within an organization. In the 80s and 90s, the “reengineering” boon proved this to be true. Most reengineering efforts were immense projects resulting in business process redesign and workforce reductions that ignored organizational culture while failing to take into account the people side of change.”

Graduating as an industrial engineer in the 80s, I can personally relate to that blunder. As a new graduate, I was equipped with many tools and techniques to streamline work processes, redesign work spaces, make procedures more efficient and cut waste. But what fell short in that approach was that humans were connected with all these tasks, humans who had their own thoughts and opinions and would resist my efficient and logical plans!”
