Kinship proceedings are a proceeding brought in Surrogate’s Court by an alleged heir to prove their blood relation to the Decedent. It can be brought at the beginning of an estate proceeding to establish priority to serve as administrator or during the accounting proceeding to establish that Claimant is entitled to all or a portion of the estate.
