Worker Motivation Techniques

 
Motivation is the means to reduce the gap between the employee’s actual state/performance and some desired state. Motivational programs can create incentive to “do right;” to improve employee morale; to create leaders who will be good examples for new workers; and to lead to employee empowerment and improved safety and productivity. However, you must be wary of incentive programs that can be counter-productive (e.g., avoid programs that deter accident reporting or which punish a group for one person’s failure).

In employee surveys, salary and benefits ranked lower … money is not the prime motivation. Workers want job security, advancement, safety, work enjoyment, and to be proud of the company they work for.

In this 15-minute video our speaker, Adele L. Abrams, Esq., CMSP, reviews all of this as well as several motivational strategies that work. She also discusses six motivational strategies that managers need to realize are actually motivational myths.
