Approximately 144,662 HIPAA Privacy Rule complaints have been filed since April 2003.
HIPAA Privacy Rule does not apply to entities that are either workers’ compensation insurers, workers’ compensation administrative agencies, or employers, except to the extent they may otherwise be covered entities. Due to significant differences amongst state laws or other laws, the Privacy Rule permits disclosures of health information for workers’ compensation purposes in a number of different ways. This video reviews disclosures of health information without individual authorization and with individual authorization; as well as HIPAA privacy rule enforcement.
