As we look toward the future, which keeps getting here faster and faster, green specs and blue specs and LEED® specs are changing.
Building information modeling is moving very quickly with specs, as companies are optimizing what they are going to buy and where. Manufacturers are providing more technical information, while spec writers are brought in for the schematic design and putting together the outline spec. The answer to the question “what’s green?” can vary depending on your point of view. There are products that are green because of what they don’t have - zero Voc’s, use of daylighting and less electrical lighting, and energy consumption. Green products can also be those that reduce environmental impacts of building operation, building components that reduce heating and cooling loads, insulation, products with exceptional durability or low maintenance requirements; and products that contribute to a safe, healthy indoor environment.
