Monitor and Refine Your Document Retention and Destruction Policy

Monitoring and refining your information management program annually allows you to review compliance and performance and how documents are being stored, what your schedules look like, where areas are that processes aren’t working very well. Does your information management program require updates or revisions based on changing organizational structure or business practices? Have there been legal or regulatory requirements that would be cause for revisions? Even changes in technology can require an update of retention schedules.

In this video our speaker, Jack Pringle, reviews the importance of documentation of the policy, implementation, training and audits. He also discusses third parties and how financial institutions are responsible for the information retained by third parties on the financial institution’s behalf.

Jack Pringle is a partner in the law firm of Adams and Reese LLP. His practice emphasizes privacy, information security, and information governance for financial institutions, health care providers, public utilities, and other businesses. Mr. Pringle has obtained the CIPP-US designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and advises clients on the retention, collection, management, and production of electronically stored information (ESI). He conducts regular seminars and workshops on numerous topics, including privacy, data security, information governance, ESI, social media, and the effective use of technology.
