Certain records can receive extra special protections, similar to that of substance abuse and mental health records.
Records that include references to AIDS/HIV, and in most instances where child abuse has occurred, receive special protections. However, with AIDS/HIV some states have statutes that allow a health care provider to reach out to at-risk 3rd parties. If special records are in a medical chart they need to be redacted and inform requestor that specific information cannot be turned over absent an authorization or order.
