Know Thy Case - Paralegal Tips for Fact Sheets, Documents and Request for Admissions

As a paralegal it is critical to know your attorney’s case - and not just the client’s case, but the opponent’s case as well. It’s important to gather information and facts. While that might seem like what the attorney does, you can provide a valuable start to the case by offering that information and facts to start developing the case and defenses. Identify sources of information and understand what the case is about and who the key players are. Talk to the attorney and offer to participate in initial client meeting to have the best background knowledge available to you.

Our speaker, Marlo Orlin Leach, reviews how to develop a fact sheet identifying key allegations/defenses, fact, players and dates. She also reviews interrogatories of all parties and how to identify key issues. Ms. Leach also covers request for admissions and how to identify key admissions, denials and qualifications.

Marlo Orlin Leach is a managing member of Leach and Lowe LLC. She focuses her legal practice on tort, commercial, and environmental litigation. She defends premises and product liability actions involving property damage and personal injury, including claims based on toxic torts, indoor air quality, and the manufacture and use of tools, machinery, and chemicals.
