Incentive Program Options and the Role of Supervisors in Motivating Workers

When you’re structuring your incentive programs, there are going to be a lot of variables. However there are several important things to make sure you take into consideration. They include the nature and size of your operations; the number of employees you have; the number of work locations; whether or not you wish to include all employees; and whether there will be separate programs for supervisors and for rank and file workers.

The types of incentive programs can include safety observations, slogans and suggestions; safety and health committee and safety audit team participation; job safety analysis development rewards; and safety quizzes.

The motivational power in recognition programs stems from employee’s sense of pride … but if they are poorly designed, they can lead to worse performance!

In this 19-minute video our speaker, Adele L. Abrams, Esq., CMSP, reviews how to measure safety incentive systems. She discusses characteristics of successful incentive programs. Ms. Abrams also provides proactive steps that supervisors can take.
