Important Ratios That Can Be Pulled off of the Balance Sheet; Liquidity Ratios; Leverage Ratios

Review important ratios that can be pulled off the balance sheet. In this 26-minute video our speaker, Ronald A. Sereika, uses the balance sheet of “ABC Company” to discuss the formula of Asset = Liability + Owner’s Equity and a brief run through of the other items on the balance sheet. He also breaks down a common-size analysis of the balance sheet. Mr. Sereika reviews liquidity ratios such as the current ratio of currents assets/current liabilities and the quick ratio of current assets-inventory/current liabilities. He goes over DSO, which tells you how fast a company is collecting AR. He emphasizes that you need to educate your management that this formula is driven more by sales than collections, avoid having DSO as a measurement for your review. He also reviews DPO, which tells you how fast the company is paying their bills. Mr. Sereika wraps up the video discussing leverage ratios such as, debt ratio, debt to equity and times interest earned.

Ronald A. Sereika, of CooperVision, won the 2013 CCE award of excellence presented by the National Association of Credit management, as well as the 2010 National Instructor of the Year award. Mr. Sereika was a national speaker at NACM Credit Congress, NACM Eastern Regional Conference, Up-state NY Annual meetings from 2011 to 2015.
