How to Rescue a Troubled Nonprofit - California Considerations

There are different income tax considerations for California purposes than there are for federal purposes. Organizations sometimes have problems on multiple fronts. This video discusses how troubles can arise, details on reinstating California tax-exemption, restoring good standing with the California Secretary of State, and the enforcement of the California Attorney General. Sometimes organizations move and the make sure their address is updated with the IRS … but they can’t stop there. The address needs to be updated with the FTB, the attorney general/registry of charitable trusts, and the secretary of state. Failure to do so is how some tax issues can occur. Our speaker, Louis E. Michelson, Esq., reviews how to lose the exemption, revocation in error, and California exemptions. He also discusses the Nonprofit Integrity Act of 2004 and modifications and enforcement of proposed regulations.

This is a sister presentation to another video on our website by Mr. Michelson: How to Rescue a Troubled Nonprofit – Federal Income Tax Considerations.
