Trauma can result from a harmful or life-threatening event or circumstance that has long-lasting adverse effects on one’s well-being. Trauma need not involve actual physical harm to oneself and can include an event or series of events that overpowers one’s ability to cope. Witness to trauma, learning about a loved one’s trauma, or repeated exposure to actual traumatic events and/or traumatized individuals (vicarious trauma) are all situations of trauma. This video reviews different types of trauma and discusses attorneys often find themselves dealing with vicarious trauma.
