Do's and Don'ts of Online Debt Collection

Technology continues to change the debt collection environment.

The FDCPA and the FCRA don’t specifically talk about the do’s and don’ts of online debt collection because there was no Internet when these laws were written. Most do’s and don’ts can be figure out by using common sense when utilizing the internet for debt collections. E-learning is just one of the do’s of online debt collecting. Webinars, online conferences, and videos can train your collectors to be the best collectors they can be without leaving their desks. And, as a bonus, it is often less expensive. Another “do” is skip tracing or locating debtors. Many collectors use social networks to find debtors. Many debtors have public profile pages on social sites and a collector can find a mailing address, phone number, place of employment and other contact information by searching those sites.
