Construction Project Plan for Success - A Matter of Perspective

Scott Lowe, P.E., discusses the three essential requirements of successfully planning a construction project: budget, schedule and scope/quality. He discusses the different points of view between the owner and the contractor with these three items. Time considerations for the owner can include when they need the project done and the pros and cons of early or late delivery; however the contractor may look at time as an enemy when trying to complete the project in sufficient time. Cost of the project is an important factor in determining if the project is a good investment for the owner or a good decision to take on for the contractor. The issue of quality is also a factor to the owner from determining the balance of the quality they need and the level of quality they can afford to making sure that the quality desired is communicated to the team; whereas the contractor is faced with determining if they can meet the owner’s quality expectations and if the costs have been calculated correctly to meet those expectations. In this 20-minute video, Mr. Lowe discusses these considerations which are used to decide on which of the contract delivery form options are best for the project.
