Learn how both state and federal governments play important regulatory roles.
The Clean Water Act was originally enacted as the Federal Water Pollution Control Act in 1948. In 1972 amendments were made and Congress passed what is now known as the Clean Water Act. Water quality standards are set by the states, with oversight by the EPA, and designated uses and water quality criteria. This video reviews the Clean Water Act and pollutant regulations and state delegation, and the role of the Corps and EPA.
