The Pregnant Pause: Avoiding Legal Liability to Expectant Workers, Family Members and New Parents

Make sure you are in compliance with Colorado’s new Pregnancy Discrimination Law.In recent years, federal and state-law protections of pregnant workers have expanded, as have employers’ potential liabilities to them. This topic will help equip employment lawyers, outside corporate counsel, in-house counsel, and human resources professionals with an understanding of these legal protections for expectant workers, as well as their family members and new parents. It will explain the interactions between the overlapping obligations, discuss a number of hypotheticals to show how the protections operate, and describe best practices for helping employers avoid liability while demonstrating appropriate sensitivity to the challenges faced by workers who are pregnant or new parents, or family members of those who are.
