Report Writing for Skilled Auditors

Get the tools you need to become skilled and proficient at audit report writing.

Audit report writing demands far more than just listing the criteria, condition, cause, and effect. This boilerplate approach can threaten independent, critical thinking and undermine the entire audit process, ultimately tarnishing the credibility of the auditor. Skilled auditors require a method that aligns what they experienced during the reviewing process with what they compose during the writing process.
This specialized topic offers a deep toolbox of techniques to use when noting audit observations, drafting objective work papers, and composing organized, detailed, and fluent audit reports. It begins by illustrating elements of an audit checklist, and then reveals problems in ensuring validity and reliability of findings and determining root cause. The material then shifts to a deeper level to organize audit content based on time-tested principles of structure. It concludes with the two pillars of writing style: syntax (word order) and diction (word choice)—each posing numerous pitfalls that can compromise the integrity of an audit report. You will learn how to remedy the greatest roadblocks to clear thinking and cultivate a convincing, authoritative style. You will gain excellent resources for continued use during intense, complex audit engagements.
