Protocol for Disinfecting Healthcare Equipment

Proper disinfection and sterilization of medical equipment is essential to prevent the spread of pathogens and infections.

Nationwide reports of patients developing Clostridioides difficile or Candida auris infections from medical equipment has concerned healthcare employees in hospitals, long term care facilities, ambulatory surgery centers and dialysis centers. Serious pathogens can contaminate multiple items used in the care of patients. This topic will help both front line workers and managers understand the mode of transmission of pathogens from equipment to themselves and their patients. The content will cover current standards for cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization. Implementation of an effective cleaning program will be discussed.
