Massachusetts is known for its substantial regulatory restrictions, especially in the construction industry. This topic will provide an overview of the applicable regulations and a preview of how these are likely to change in the near future. This topic is intended for design professionals, developers, and building owners interested in keeping up with changing construction regulations. A particular focus will be the long-anticipated 9th edition of the Massachusetts State Building Code, and its impact on fire prevention, energy conservation, and the renovation of existing buildings. The relationship between all construction codes and their promulgating Boards will be discussed, and a description of efforts to reorganize the code adoption and enforcement process will be described.
