Ransomware is growing at an exponential rate and with continued success in victimizing organizations; it is unlikely that cybercrime groups will stop attacks in the foreseeable future. As health care along with education is a favored target for malicious actors, it is vitally important for health care professionals, not only within technology but also administration, human resources, and executive management are aware of the risks that their organizations face. As health care organizations look to invest more into technology, it is important to realize that deploying technology is not the singular answer to defeating the problem of ransomware but instead a combination of technology, people, and processes need to work together to reduce the ransomware risk of the organization. This topic will focus on how ransomware works, how to mitigate ransomware through technology, people, and processes, and what organizations should do if they are successfully attacked along with compliance concerns.
