Handling Hazardous Materials and Waste

Gain the information needed to meet OSHA obligations and go beyond minimum compliance in protecting workers.

The unexpected release of hazardous substances, or a substantial threat of a hazardous substance release, can pose a significant health and safety risk to workers and involvement of OSHA, the EPA, and even the U.S. Chemical Safety Board. Unexpected releases can be caused by operation failures and unrelated outside events. An employer's response is critical in protecting workers and the public in avoiding HAZWOPER citations and corporate reputational crisis management. Workers can encounter hazardous substances through waste dumped in the environment, unexpected explosions, chemical reactions, or even routine use of chemicals on the job. OSHA is in the process of revising its Hazard Communication Standard to adopt a new version of the U.N.'s Global Harmonization System. These revisions will have major implications for chemical producers, transporters, and distributors and will require revised worker training. This course will provide employers and workers with the information needed to meet OSHA obligations and go beyond minimum compliance in protecting workers.
