Fundamentals of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) & Kids' Privacy Laws

Gain an overview of kids' privacy laws, regulations, and regulatory regimes, and how to comply with current and proposed legislation.

Kids of all ages are immersed in more digital media than ever, from social media apps to gaming channels to educational technology platforms. This puts children's privacy in the headlines--and in the spotlight for federal and state regulators and lawmakers. Regulators like the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) have been expanding the types of businesses and services covered by existing federal laws like the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and states are also passing their own children's privacy laws, many implementing more extensive restrictions. These developments mean that businesses may need to comply with children's privacy laws now or in the near future, even if they haven't before. This program will provide an overview of kids' privacy laws, regulations, and regulatory regimes, specifically how to comply with current and proposed legislation in various contexts (home, school, and metaverse).
