Expert witness testimony, used effectively, can be a powerful tool to positively influence juror perception of a case. However, expert witness testimony, often more than any other aspect of trial, also has the potential to alienate and confuse jurors. This on-demand webinar will focus on strategies for delivering technical information successfully to become an effective expert for the jury. We will begin by exploring the fundamental roles (investigator, educator, and evaluator) that an expert witness or technical consultant plays in advancing a case narrative to influence a trial outcome. Next, the program will delineate a preparation process for communicating concepts that jurors will remember, strengthening consistency between direct and cross examination and avoiding common mistakes that diminish the value of an expert’s knowledge. Finally, we will examine the criteria jurors use to evaluate an expert witness - expertise, credibility, objectivity and credentials.
