Understand the responsibilities regarding code compliance and how to incorporate the requirements into project specifications.
Design professionals understand that specifications establish the quality of the products, materials, and systems indicated on the drawings. This topic addresses those code-related requirements that must typically be provided in the specifications and addresses alternative compliance methods. The building code establishes requirements that, by their nature, must be addressed in the construction documents on drawings, in the specifications, or more likely, both. Specifications are best suited for establishing qualitative requirements such as material/product characteristics, performance requirements, and installation requirements. There are some requirements that may either be indicated on the drawings or in the specifications--a situation that demands close coordination so duplicate or even worse, conflicting information is not provided, which can hinder the process of obtaining municipal approvals. This program will help you avoid those common pitfalls.
