Sales and Use Tax in Virginia: Are You Ready for a Sales Tax Audit?

If a company is doing business in a state that has a sales and use tax, they need to be prepared for an audit. This is not on the top of everyone's list to do, but it is better to be proactive when it comes to sales taxes than reactive. Being prepared is half of the battle when dealing with sales tax audits. An auditor who sees that a company is prepared for an audit, is organized with their work papers and has the documentation needed to support exempt sales will be easier to work with and less likely to find an error. In order to be prepared for an audit there are several areas
that will need attention which are outlined in this report. Although these items are
administrative in nature, preparing them before an audit will help when the audit notice arrives in the mail.
