Medical Records Law in Florida

 
Florida law protects the confidentialty of a patient's medical records. However, no one particular state statute exists which provides for the confidentiality of all medical records. Numerous Florida statutes and regulations govern health care professionals' and government entities' use and disclosure of patient records. Many of these statues are covered in these materials.
When researching the Florida law that protect patient records for a particular health care provider, the following step-by-step process may be useful in locating all applicable laws. First, determine whether your provider is governed by the general medical records provisions in Fla. Stat. 456.057. Florida Statues. Second, search the chapter of the Florida Statues that regulates your provider for provisions regarding medical records. Third, research the regulations governing your provider in the Florida Administration Code for similar provisions.
