What does construction have to do with Apple Computer’s popular iTunes Software? If you listen to Scott Lowe, P.E.; more than you think. Lowe is using a technology known as podcasting to deliver his message on construction best practices through the internet.
Lowe’s training videos (lumped into 10 to 20 minute episodes) are available through Apple’s iTunes Store as a free download and on his firm’s website, www.TraunerConsulting.com, in both streaming and downloadable format. Each episode is formatted much like seminars Lowe has taught to thousands of construction professionals over the last 15 years. They will be available in both audio and video formats. Visitors will even be able to subscribe for free through iTunes, or other podcast-compatable software programs, and receive a new episode each month.
“Known as the Construction Netcast, this series will focus less on the how of construction and more on the tools and knowledge professionals can use to ensure their projects are completed on time and within budget, “said Lowe, who also serves as Principal of the national consulting firm, Trauner Consulting Services, Inc. “Our topics include project scheduling, claim avoidance and resolution, alternative contracting, and specification writing.”
Many of the topics discussed in this series are expanded upon during the Lorman seminars Lowe and others from Trauner Consulting Services present on a regular basis. Throughout the series, Lowe will also be joined by additional construction experts from Trauner Consulting Services, Inc.
Since podcasting started in 2003, its popularity has exploded and now reaches millions of people. The Pew Internet & American Life project recently released a report stating some 12% of internet users have downloaded a podcast. Lowe hopes to use this medium to assist designers, builders, owners, and attorneys throughout the country.
