SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), for example, is the certification program for senior HR, management or administrative professionals. You may qualify for this certification if you:
- Have at least six years in HR if you studied in an HR program, or seven years if you did not take an HR program and you don’t hold at least a bachelor’s degree
- Have a bachelor’s degree and have at least four years in an HR position — if you studied in an HR program — or five years in an HR job — if your education was not in HR
- Have a graduate degree and at least three years of HR job experience — if you studied HR — or four years in an HR position — if you took a non-HR degree
In addition to the above requirements, you must apply for and pass an exam. Once you are certified, you must also take at least 60 hours of continuing education courses or training or re-take the exam to qualify for re-certification.
