With certain exceptions, all licensed CPAs and other accounting professionals in New York State must undergo regular annual continuing professional education training to keep their skills current. Each calendar year, the state Office of the Professions requires public accountants to complete either 24 hours of training concentrated in a single recognized subject area or 40 hours of total training in a combination of topics. As well, four hours of professional ethics training must be completed every three years.
