Architecture is a dynamic field. As an architect, you need to be aware of not only real estate laws and environmental laws, but also zoning legislation, bylaws, seismic design, environmental design and the latest technology in smart homes and construction materials. Essentially, you need to know it all. The problem is what you need to know is always changing as new laws are passed and as innovations are released.
The New Hampshire Board of Architects oversees licensing of architectures in the state and requires renewal of architectural licenses every two years. Architects in the state must complete eight continuing education hours in HSW (Health, Safety and Welfare) topics and an additional four hours in sustainable design. Architects who are members of the AIA (American Institute of Architects) must also complete New Hampshire AIA courses to renew their membership. The AIA requires 18 hours of continuing education hours each year — 12 of which must be in HSW areas. You can take approved New Hampshire AIA credits online or in person to meet these requirements.
