The Paralegal CORE Competency Exam is one of the two main forms of credentialing offered by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA). Intended for professionals at the beginning of their careers, it recognizes a mastery of basic paralegal topics and responsibilities, and a commitment to ongoing skill-building.
Getting PCCE-Certified
Visit the NFPA website to learn more about the PCCE certification. As an overview, PCCE certification requires sitting for a two and half-hour exam consisting of 125 multiple-choice questions. Of these, 52 percent pertain to paralegal practice while the remainder cover substantive areas of law. In order to sit for the exam, you must have an appropriate combination of education and experience, typically a bachelor’s or associate’s degree, and either a paralegal certificate or at least six months of professional experience. Detailed requirements can be found on the NFPA website.
After passing the exam, your certification is valid for two years. Following that, to recertify, you must demonstrate that you have completed a minimum 8.0 hours of approving continuing legal education, include 1.0 hour of ethics training. This is where we come in. Use Lorman and our NFPA approved courses to continue your re-certification by taking courses at Lorman approved with NFPA continuing education credits.
