Architects contribute to our communities and lives every day. They design and create buildings where we live our lives. These hard-working professionals, however, do a lot more. To be successful, architects need to stay aware of federal, local, and state issues and laws so they can stay fully compliant with the regulations and laws affecting their industry.
Continuing education can help with all these goals.
With continuing education, you learn about the latest smart home technology, zoning laws, environmental legislation, building methods, best practices, and everything else you need to succeed in your career while staying compliant with today’s regulations.
Lifelong training also builds on your education and practice to help you become a stronger professional, allowing you to expand on the services you can offer your clients.
Continuing education is also a mandatory requirement to renew your license as a professional architect in Illinois.
Illinois Licensing Renewal Requirements
To renew your license as an architect in Illinois, you must complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years. Sixteen of these hours must cover HSW (Health, Safety, and Welfare) subjects. On even numbered years, you have until November 30 to meet your education requirements. You must be able to prove you have completed your education requirements and you must keep this evidence for at least five years in case you are audited. If you are a member of the AIA (the American Institute of Architects), you must also complete their requirements to renew your membership. This is generally 18 hours of study, all of which can be completed online.
