Architects literally shape how — and where — we live, work, and play. With enormous responsibility, these professionals are responsible for client vision, design, building approvals, documentation, development, construction, and post-construction phases. This multi-faceted role means architects need to be aware of the latest laws, regulations, and best practices in a number of fields, including environmental legislation, zoning, municipal rules, energy efficiency, engineering, building codes and materials, and much more.
Idaho requires architects licensed in the state to complete 12 hours of HSW (Health, Safety, and Welfare) training each year. If you are a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), you must complete 18 hours of continuing education each year to keep your membership active. Twelve of these hours must be in HSW topics.
Courses you complete for your renewal requirement need to be approved by the AIA but can be live or online training. You must keep evidence of your continuing education and training for a minimum of five years, in case you are audited and need to prove you have taken all required training.
Do You Need to Take Idaho AIA Courses and Training?
If you need to renew your license or membership in AIA, you will need to take continuing education each year. Of course, this is not the only reason to become a lifelong learner. Further training can help you stay up-to-date about the latest changes in your field and can make you more competitive. Training can also help you understand legal changes that can affect architects, so you stay fully compliant.
