The Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) program is one of two main designations offered by the Institute for Supply Management. CPSM certification “establishes you as someone who has mastered the core competencies of the foundational aspects of procurement and sourcing, contracts, negotiation and leadership.” One of the best-recognized certifications in the field, it’s a great way for professionals to advance their careers, further augmenting their experience and education.
Becoming CPSM Certified
To become CPSM certified, you must:
- Have three years of full-time supply management experience and a bachelor’s degree, or five years of experience without a degree.
- Pass three CPSM exams: Foundation of Supply Management, Effective Supply Management Performance and Leadership in Supply Management.
Once you’ve attained your initial certification, ongoing continuing education is a requirement. In order to recertify after three years, you must complete 60 credit hours of approved training. These can be earned in many ways, though the most convenient is through online distance learning programs.
